Our Mission
Whether you are an individual, a family or a business, you need different insurance solutions at different points in time in your career and raising a family, and in short – during life itself. Here are some examples: buying an apartment, taking out a mortgage, car insurance, joining a pension fund, setting up a study fund and more. Many times, you transfer the management of assets that you have accumulated over the years to various entities and this makes it difficult to see the full picture when you try to understand all the liabilities and assets you have.
At Shekel, our vision is very clear: to be a “one stop shop” for our customers, a place where you will receive a response to all your insurance needs. We do this by combining the best technology, leading insurance experts and the holistic risk management approach we have developed, which is used by us as we map out the full range of needs with you and tailor the optimal solutions for you.
History of the Shekel Group
Shekel’s founder, Meir Ozen, founded the company in 1979 and served as the Group’s chairman until January 2012.
The name Shekel was chosen because of his love for the Bible: Ozen looked for a phrase related to money from biblical times and chose the currency used by our ancestor Abraham. In that year, the Israeli currency was still the Pound. In 1981, as part of the struggle against the dismal economic situation (annual inflation reached almost 400%), Yigal Horowitz, who served as Minister of Finance during that difficult period, chose to change the Israeli currency from the Pound to the Shekel.
By the way, the weekly bible portion at the time of the announcement of the transition from Pound to Shekel was “Parashat Shekalim”.
